Ignite is our premier fundraiser of the year. Your contributions will directly impact all current and future Blazers of St. Barnabas. All proceeds will directly benefit St. Barnabas School by contributing to modernizing and revamping classrooms with the goal of creating a more collaborative, hands-on, and up-to-date learning environment for all learning styles.
Save the date! You are officially invited to the 2nd annual St. Barnabas School Ignite Gala on Friday, October 18, 2019. We were so blessed with a sold-out inaugural event last year and we hope to continue the excitement and momentum in 2019!
What is Ignite?
It’s a fun-filled evening that includes delicious food, libations, entertainment as well as live and silent auctions. Ignite supports the mission, vision, and initiatives of St. Barnabas School ensuring our education serves in Christian faith, service, and academic excellence as a hallmark in Nordonia Hills and the surrounding communities.
Where will proceeds from Ignite go?
All proceeds will directly benefit St. Barnabas School by contributing to modernizing and revamping classrooms with the goal of creating a more collaborative, hands-on, and up-to-date learning environment for all learning styles. We know from our own experience with the Dream Den that students are excited to learn and create in a modern, flexible learning space. Therefore, continuing along the same path of educationally focused modernization for the rest of our classrooms was the obvious choice for Ignite 2019.
How do classroom modernization and changes impact my student?
Research shows that proper lighting, classroom color, sound absorbing materials (like carpeting), and flexible seating options all increase learning outcomes, help students focus on instruction, and maximize the potential for all learning styles.
One study looked at three dimensions of classroom design: naturalness (factors like light and temperature), stimulation (factors like color and visual complexity), and individualization (factors like flexibility and student ownership) and found that optimizing all of these physical characteristics of classrooms improved academic performance in reading, writing, and mathematics by 16%.
Flexible, welcoming spaces had a startlingly large effect on learning in math—73% of the students’ progress that was attributed to classroom design was traced back to flexibility and student ownership. One of the findings suggested that anxiety-prone subjects like math, are better handled in classrooms that feel comfortable and familiar to students.
Fluorescent light can trigger headaches & hyperactivity as well as increased sensitivity in children on the autism spectrum while lighting with bluer/higher Kelvin temperatures that mimic natural daylight, like LEDs, increase student alertness and focus.
How can I get involved in Ignite 2019?
Join a committee, make a donation, become a sponsor, advertise, purchase an event or raffle ticket, and/or bid on auction items...there’s nothing too big or too small that you can’t do to support Ignite 2019.
Keep an eye out for invitations to “Parent Parties” that will be hosted throughout the summer and into fall by St. Barnabas School families. In addition to grabbing a bite to eat, a drink and catching up on summer happenings with fellow parents, these parties are a wonderful way to get involved with Ignite by learning how to contribute in various areas as well as raise funds for auction items. In the meantime, to help us, please visit www.sbcatholicschool.com/ignite or the Ignite Facebook Event for more information.
Yours in Catholic Education,
Mrs. Faetanini and the 2019 Ignite Committee
