Here is what's happening in Preschool...

November
3-Year-Old Preschool:

It is hard to believe that the summer is really over. During the next nine months, we will observe the children mature physically, intellectually, spiritually, and academically. This month the children will be working very hard while at preschool. The children will learn how to: form a line, sort out the colors red, yellow, and green, use scissors properly, sit quietly during storytime, listen to a friend speak, play with friends, and follow directions. We will also learn to comfort one another, put things away, explain our creative artwork and feel good about our accomplishments. We will continue to work on fine motor skills, such as cutting and coloring. We will also be counting 1-10 every day. All of these items can be practiced at home throughout the year.

Our themes for September will be hands, friendship, germs, size, seeds, apples, and prepositions.

Special days to Remember:
September 9: Picture Day (Smile!)
September 16: Please have your child wear something red.
September 23: Please have your child wear something yellow
September 30: Please have your child wear something green.

Please be patient with your child's separation anxiety. The crying will eventually stop, and this is all a normal part of the preschool experience.

 4-Year-Old Preschool
It is hard to believe that the summer is really over. During the next eight months, we will both be observing your children mature physically, intellectually, spiritually, and academically.

This month the children will learn about water and its importance to all living things. We will examine pond water through a microscope, observe things that float and sink at the water table, create water droplet designs on paper towels and make music with water-filled glasses. The children will learn about John The Baptist, be able to baptize a doll and learn about when Jesus walked on water. We will end the water unit with the story of Noah's Ark.

Also this month, we will explore a variety of seeds. We will discuss their size, shape, color, and their importance in our lives. A seed we will specifically study is those found in apples. The children will be introduced to several different types of apples at our apple tasting party. They will taste, see and smell the differences. A field trip to Beckwith Orchard in Kent, on September 24th, will be the conclusion of our apple unit. The children will be able to see the apples growing on the trees, walk through the corn maze, and eat an apple!

Also in September, we will study the colors red, yellow, and green, and items shaped like circles and squares, counting 1-20, and introduce sight words. We will review scissors safety, how to sit quietly during storytime, listening to a friend speak, playing with friends, and following directions.

Special days to Remember:
September 3: Please have your child wear something red.
September 9: Picture day (Thursday)
September 10: Please have your child wear something yellow
September 17: Please have your child wear something green.
September 24: 8:30 Mass
September 24: Field Trip - Beckwith Apple Orchard: 10:00 am

Many thanks for sharing your beautiful children with us. We are looking forward to a great September.
