It is hard to believe that the summer is really over. During the next eight months, we will both be observing your children mature physically, intellectually, spiritually, and academically.
This month the children will learn about water and its importance to all living things. We will examine pond water through a microscope, observe things that float and sink at the water table, create water droplet designs on paper towels and make music with water-filled glasses. The children will learn about John The Baptist, be able to baptize a doll and learn about when Jesus walked on water. We will end the water unit with the story of Noah's Ark.
Also this month, we will explore a variety of seeds. We will discuss their size, shape, color, and their importance in our lives. A seed we will specifically study is those found in apples. The children will be introduced to several different types of apples at our apple tasting party. They will taste, see and smell the differences. A field trip to Beckwith Orchard in Kent, on September 24th, will be the conclusion of our apple unit. The children will be able to see the apples growing on the trees, walk through the corn maze, and eat an apple!
Also in September, we will study the colors red, yellow, and green, and items shaped like circles and squares, counting 1-20, and introduce sight words. We will review scissors safety, how to sit quietly during storytime, listening to a friend speak, playing with friends, and following directions.
