Dear St. Barnabas Families,
We are heartbroken and saddened to learn of the senseless tragedy in Uvalde, Texas yesterday. Our prayers are with the children, staff, families, and all who have responded to and been affected by this horrific act.
The safety and well-being of St. Barnabas students and staff is our utmost priority and we will continue to be persistent in all of our plans and procedures to protect the safety of the precious children you trust to our care each day. A few years ago we worked with an outside company to make major upgrades to the safety and security of our school building. We installed secure double doors and a vestibule that didn’t exist previously, a new campus access control system including additional security cameras and alarms, a relocated extended day pickup entrance, among many other changes. We regularly practice lockdown and evacuation procedures and review them with the Summit County Sheriff's department. Additionally, I meet quarterly with the Nordonia Safety Commission, which consists of first responders, school leaders and crisis team to ensure we are prepared for any situation which may arise. I am grateful for this collaborative relationship and for their continued guidance and support in these efforts.
We are committed to safety and security at St. Barnabas School and will continue to evaluate and make upgrades and improvements as needed. Just as importantly, we will continue to promote a school culture of love, empathy, inclusiveness, and trust. Our guidance counselor, Mrs. Taylor is available to assist and support any children who may have questions or concerns regarding the tragedy. You can contact Mrs. Taylor directly at [email protected]..
As always, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
Hug your children tight tonight and please pray for those grieving families and for our country.
Peace to you all,
