8th grade STEM challenge

In their study of Newton’s Laws of Motions, 8th graders were challenged to design, build, and test a car safety device that would keep an egg safe and unharmed during a forward (head-on) collision. Teams worked through the engineering design process to meet the challenge. Students were required to meet design constraints, document their prototype designs and materials, construct, test, modify and retest their device. As a bonus, team members with the safety device with least mass, while still protecting their egg received a Hersey’s candy bar!
