Dear St. Barnabas Families,
The St. Barnabas School Scholarship Program is back this year and we are pleased to offer a variety of merit-based and need-based scholarships in an effort to acknowledge those that continuously go above and beyond each day as well as making our school an option for those families for which a Catholic education is financially out of reach.
Scholarships will be funded by the St. Barnabas Endowment Fund, which provides a strategic way for parishioners and families to make financial gifts toward the long-term stability of our school and parish. The Endowment is a professionally managed, tax-exempt fund that invests principal donations and disperses income and appreciation.
How to apply:
Complete the scholarship application below. Each application includes a parent essay, student essay for students (grades 4-8 only), teacher recommendation and supplemental financial information, if applicable. One application form is required per student, regardless of how many scholarships the student wishes to apply.
Teacher recommendations must be requested in ample time to allow for teachers to submit before scholarship applications are due.
March 8, 2022 - Teacher recommendation requests submitted to teachers
March 15, 2022 - All scholarship materials must be submitted per the instructions listed on the application
March 16, 2022 - Scholarship committee review
March 21, 2022 - Scholarship award notifications sent via email
Requirements and rules:
Applicants must be entering grades 1-8 in the Fall of 2022.
Applicants must be currently enrolled students or those who have completed the application process to enroll for the 2022-2023 school year.
Applicants do not need to be Catholic or registered members of St. Barnabas parish to be considered.
A family may apply for multiple children. Please use one application per child.
A student may only be awarded one scholarship regardless of the number of scholarships applied.
Funds awarded will be directly applied to FACTS and cannot be exchanged for a cash reward.
A scholarship selection committee made up of non-parents, who will keep all information completely confidential has been formed to review all applications. Applications will be reviewed against a standard rubric with all personal identifying information removed.
The available scholarships for which students may apply for the 2022-2023 school year are:
St. Barnabas Blazer Opportunity Scholarship: Up to four (4) $1,625 scholarships, funded through the St. Barnabas Endowment Fund, based on the desire for a Catholic education as demonstrated in parent essay and student essay (for grades 4-8). Financial need and special circumstances explained in the parent essay will be considered. Special consideration will be given to families with more than one child. Supplemental financial information will be collected on the application form.
St. Barnabas Blazer Best Scholarship: One (1) $1,000 scholarship funded through the St. Barnabas Endowment Fund, for a minority student who desires a Catholic education. This student must exemplify the St. Barnabas School Mission by following the path of Christ and responsibility to self and service to others.
St. Barnabas B.L.U.E. Scholarship: One (1) $750 scholarship funded through the St. Barnabas Endowment Fund, to be awarded to a student who demonstrates continued adherence to the BEATITUDES, genuine LOVE and respect for faculty and fellow students, strives to UNIFY others, EXCELLENCE in academics, and self-discipline.
St. Barnabas Be Gentle to All Scholarship: In the spirit of Pope Francis, two (2) $500 scholarships funded through the St. Barnabas Endowment Fund, to be awarded to a student who continually displays kindness and generosity, putting others needs before his or her own and demonstrating empathy.
St. Barnabas Go Make a Difference Scholarship: Two (2) $500 scholarships funded through the St. Barnabas Endowment Fund, to be awarded to a junior high altar server who has learned the process and structure of the mass and has provided superb support for the priests at both school and weekend services, while demonstrating a deep love of our Catholic faith and commitment to serving others.
Apply for Scholarships
We encourage all St. Barnabas families to consider applying for one or more of these scholarships, especially if financial need or special circumstances are present. Families are also encouraged to apply for need-based tuition assistance through the Diocesan Tuition Assistance (DTA) by applying online through FACTS by March 15, which is completely separate from these St. Barnabas scholarships.
